In July, senior Jasmine Hogan, DMA candidate Cameron Huster, and GPD candidate Shuang Liu attended the USA International Harp Competition in Bloomington, Ind., and gave a presentation about new music with harp department chair Ruth Inglefield, who is the head of the composition competition associated with the harp competition. The students performed the pieces composed by the prize winners and spoke about the process of learning some avant-garde music. Along with these pieces, they played other compositions that merited acknowledgement in the harp community, but did not gain a prize from the pool of over 70 submitted pieces. They have been invited to give this presentation at the World Harp Congress in Vancouver, July 24-30, 2011.
