Senior Kelsey Tamayo attended the 2010 Summer Orford Academy Orchestra, Orford, Montreal, Canada. Tamayo was one of only four percussionists accepted through an international audition process. She received a full tuition music scholarship under the baton of Music Director Kent Nagano from the Bavarian State Opera Symphony, Munich, Germany, and Jorg Widmann, composer and clarinet soloist. The four week festival consisted of a number orchestra performances along with masterclasses and lessons with European University music professors.
In addition to attending the summer festival, Tamayo performed a marimba duet with Maiko Ono from Mannes College of Music, which will be featured on Canadian TV. Tamayo also worked and studied with conductor Jean Francois Rivest, percussionist Andre Malashenko of the Montreal Symphony, and percussionist Robert Leroux, department head of percussion at Universite of Montreal.
