Chamber opera company Rhymes With Opera presented Music Theory faculty member David Smooke‘s experimental nonopera, Criminal Element, on its June tour, performing in New York City; Baltimore; Hartford, Conn.; and Boston. The nonopera, performed in a language fabricated by Smooke, is an experimental journey through the mind of the French rogue trader Jerome Kerviel.
Rhymes With Opera is comprised of Peabody alumni: composers Ruby Fulton and George Lam, sopranos Elisabeth Halliday and Bonnie Lander, and baritone Robert Maril.
