A new book by Markand Thakar, co-director of the graduate conducting program, was recently published by the University of Rochester Press. Looking for the “Harp” Quartet: An Investigation into Musical Beauty is a philosophical tour through the experience of beauty taking the form of a dialogue between a music student and his teacher.
The Mid-West Book Review calls the book “an exercise in academic excellence and a seminal contribution for personal, professional, and academic Classical Music Studies reference collections and supplemental reading lists.”
The American Library Association describes it as “a thoughtful inquiry into the nature of beauty and the aesthetic experience.”
The Berkshire Review calls it an …”immensely stimulating and rewarding book…”
