Jake Runestad’s Dreams of the Fallen

Jake-Runestad-Headshot-2-e1331324237961Jake Runestad (MM ’11, Composition) recently completed a commission for a new composition for piano, chorus, and orchestra setting poems by Iraq War veteran Brian Turner. The 22-minute piece, Dreams of the Fallen, focuses on the impact war has on an individual, especially once he or she has returned home and struggles with PTSD and other psychological and physical problems. The work will receive its premiere performance in November at the National WWII Museum New Orleans, with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Chorus of New Orleans. The Dayton Philharmonic and Chorus, Rockford Symphony and Chorus, the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, and the Virginia Arts Festival are also involved.  An article about the project, “Out of War, a Symphony,” has been featured in the New York Times.  Visit Runestad’s website for more information about the composition.
