Dr_Laura_Kafka-PricePreparatory Group Voice instructor, Laura Kafka-Price sang the world premiere of Three Polish Koledy for soprano, oboe and piano that were arranged for her by Dennis Ritz at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, DC on December 15. Other solo appearances included the singing of the Polish and the American National Anthems for the American Council for Polish Culture 65th Annual National Convention, as well as A Concert of Christmas Carols and Midnight Mass services held at the Polish Parish in Silver Spring.

Kafka-Price reviewed American composer Elizabeth Vercoe’s newest CD Kleemation and Other Works for the Journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music (vol. 19, no.1, p. 38-9). She also wrote the program notes, jointly with Scott Beard of Shepherd University, for “One Hundred Years of Polish Song,” a concert of Polish art and popular songs which she sang for the Polish American Congress Washington Metropolitan Area Division Annual Thanksgiving Dinner in Bethesda.

Kafka-Price also presented two lectures and sang her own live musical examples as the guest speaker for The Humanities Round Table at The Center Club in Baltimore on the subject of “The Human Singing Voice,” and the Polish American Arts Association Annual Scholarship and Election Meeting in Washington, DC , where her topic was her “Current and Proposed Research Topics.”

Kafka-Price recently adjudicated the National Association of Teachers of Singing MD/DC Student Auditions, the Prince George’s County Vocal Solo and Ensemble Auditions, and the Peabody Preparatory Vocal Auditions.  She was recently appointed to the Advisory Counsel for The Polish American Arts Association of Washington, DC (Metro Division).
