Fred Bronstein, dean of the Peabody Institute, gave this statement in reaction to the news of recent Peabody graduate Andrew Smith’s passing this week:
“We are saddened by the news that Andrew Smith, a recent Peabody alumnus, passed away this week. A horn player and member of a tight-knit community of brass players during his undergraduate years here, Andrew received his bachelor’s degree from Peabody in 2013. He is remembered for both his musical talent and his warm, engaging personality.
“Many of you knew and worked with Andrew, and his sudden death surely comes as a great shock. Should you need support in dealing with this tragic news, free counseling services are available through the Johns Hopkins University Counseling Center.
“Arrangements for Andrew at this time are not known, but will be communicated when they become available.
“The Peabody community is marked by the loss of any member; it is especially difficult to lose one so young. Our thoughts go out to Andrew’s family and his many friends.”
