Several Peabody alumni and faculty won Individual Artist awards from the Maryland State Arts Council. Mark Meadows (GPD ’13, Jazz Piano; JHU BA ’11, Psychology), bass faculty artist Michael Formanek, Joel Nygren (BM ’04, Jazz Piano) and Ian Sims (BS ’08 Electrical Engineering; BM ’08, AD ’10, Jazz Saxophone; MA ’10, Audio Science) all won for non-classical music composition. Faculty member Jennifer Blades (MM ’97, GPD ’98, Voice) and Russell Kirk (BM ’05, Jazz Saxophone) won for non-classical music solo performances.
