On April 29, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the George Peabody Library, a panel discussion on Stinney, a new opera by voice student Frances Pollock, will take place. The discussion will feature Lester Spence, associate professor, Department of Political Science, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, author of Stare in the Darkness: The Limits of Hip-hop and Black Con-ciousness (2011); Laura Mason, Department of History, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, author of Singing the French Revolution: Popular Culture and Politics, 1897-1799; and James Jackson Ashton, Department of History, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences,“Every Man’s Heart Beat Full”: Music and the Performance of Patriotism, 1790-1848. Composer Frances Pollock will participate, and the event will be moderated by Hollis Robbins, chair of the Humanities Department, and faculty member David Smooke.
