Michael Hersch’s “On the Threshold of Winter” to be performed this fall at Peabody

On the Threshold of Winter final dress stillsThe much anticipated second production of Michael Hersch’s acclaimed monodrama On the Threshold of Winter will take place on Saturday, October 3, at Peabody with faculty artist Ah Young Hong. The two-act work is based upon the harrowing final book of poems by Marin Sorescu. The New Yorker writes:

“Hersch, now in his second decade as one of the most prominent composers in the country, writes masterly modernist music of implacable seriousness. After personal tragedy – he not only battled cancer but watched a close friend die of the disease – he came to write his first opera, a monodrama for soprano employing texts from the final collection of the Romanian poet Marin Sorescu.”
