The Peabody Conservatory’s new contemporary chamber ensemble, Now Hear This, has announced its inaugural season beginning this fall. Envisioned as a flexibly configured group, the ensemble will perform music of our time and will engage students in the planning and execution of its activities in order to broaden the learning experience. Courtney Orlando, a music theory faculty member and core member of Alarm Will Sound, is the artistic director of the group with David Smooke serving as faculty advisor. In its debut season, Now Hear This will perform on Thursday, November 19, at 7:30 pm, presenting music of Donnacha Dennehy along with that of two composers who inspired him: Julia Wolfe and Gérard Grisey. On Friday, April 15, at 7:30 pm, Now Hear This will perform Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians.
