On Thursday, January 7, Joseph Young (AD ’09, Conducting), first recipient of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra-Peabody Institute Conducting Fellowship, led the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in A Laurentian Overture by Alan Shulman (’26, Cello), followed by faculty artist Leon Fleisher, piano, performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 4 for left hand with the orchestra, led by conductor and faculty artist Marin Alsop, ending with Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3. The concert was reviewed in The Baltimore Sun by classical music critic Tim Smith. “Fleisher negotiated the tricky music with technical aplomb and, more importantly, a rich musicality,” wrote Mr. Smith. “Young led a buoyant, finely nuanced account of the score and drew vivid playing from the ensemble.” Read the full review here.
