The Peabody Institute mourns the passing of soprano Jessye Norman, winner of the 2015 George Peabody Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Music in America.
“Our world has suffered a great loss with the death of Jessye Norman, among the most accomplished artists of our time. Her powerful voice won her acclaim on performing stages the world over, and added strength and beauty to her work in advocacy and service. The Peabody Institute was proud to honor Ms. Norman’s singular legacy in 2015 by awarding her the George Peabody Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Music in America, and today, we mourn her passing,” noted Fred Bronstein, dean of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
