Organ faculty artist John Walker was in Shanghai from September 9 to 18 to adjudicate the Shanghai Conservatory of Music’s first international competition in organ performance. Top prize $6,000. The two final rounds were held September 14 and 15 at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center and the Shanghai Conservatory. This was the first event of its kind to take place in Shanghai, and was met with great success. 24 organists from 9 different countries came together for a week of events, competitions, and performances. The Organ Art Center at SCHM was established in 2015 and aims to create a world class organ society to China. Walker was a jury member for the competition, presented a masterclass, and performed with other members of the jury in a concert.
