Aaron Grad (MM ’08, Composition) has created and composed for an electric theorbo. Grad developed the instrument in 2012, and composed a piece similar to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons highlighting both Seattle’s weather patterns (where he now resides) and the new instrument. He, like Vivaldi, also composed sonnets to accompany each movement of his piece Strange Seasons. The piece was premiered in November in Seattle, and it was met with glowing reviews.
