The Chicago Opera Theater (COT) will present Elizabeth Cree, a suspenseful and thrilling tale set in Victorian London, based on the novel The Trial of Elizabeth Cree by Peter Ackroyd. Composition faculty artist Kevin Puts and librettist Mark Campbell, who together won the Pulitzer Prize for Silent Night in 2012, have reunited for this world-premiere, telling the story of a woman on trial for her husband’s grisly murder. The performances will take place Saturday, February 10, at 7:30 pm; Friday, February 16, at 7:30 pm; and Sunday, February 18, at 3:00 pm, at the historic Studebaker Theater. This work, Puts’ first chamber opera, was premiered by Opera Philadelphia in September.
