In 2014, Kitty Yang (MM ’90, DMA ’98, Organ) initiated a concert “United Methodist Choirs Sing for UMCOR Concert.” UMCOR stands for United Methodist Committee On Relief and is now rated number one in charity organizations. Choirs from Springfield, Va., and the surrounding area have presented the concerts in February each year since then. Three music directors lead the combined choirs, and all three music directors are Peabody alumni, Linda Apple Monson (BM ’79, Music Education; MM ’81, DMA ’86, Piano); Louise Wilson (DMA ’95, Organ) and Kitty Yang. This year’s fund was for Puerto Rico hurricane victims. The concert took place on Sunday, February 11, at the Springfield United Methodist Church.
