Marin Alsop at Last Night of the Proms

Headshot of Marin AlsopMarin Alsop, Professor and Director of the Graduate Conducting Program, led the Last Night of the Proms 2023 on September 9, which the BBC liveblogged and then celebrated in review. The program’s mix of the modern and traditional modestly won over younger reviewers at The Guardian and iNews, thoroughly entertained The Telegraph‘s chief classical critic Ivan Hewett, while the Financial Times thanked Alsop for being ” the best of speakers and deserves a thank-you for pushing the three-hour concert along at a brisk pace.”

Alsop was featured in a September 12 article by the Guinness Book of World Records highlighting her return to the Last Night of the Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Alsop made history at the same venue in September 2013 when she became the first female composer to conclude the BBC Proms.
