The Bergamot Quartet—Ledah Finck (BM ’16, MM ‘18, Violin); Sarah Thomas (BM ’17, MM ’19 Violin); Amy Huimei Tan (GPD ’20, Viola); and Irène Han (MM ’18, Cello)—recently completed rehearsals for a new work by Filipinx composer, percussionist, and sound artist Susie Ibarra and her Talking Gong ensemble featuring flutist Claire Chase and pianist Alex Peh. The new work is “inspired by the sky islands and unique animal habitat of rainforests elevated into the skies of Luzon, Philippines,” for which a “Floating Garden sonic sculpture of gong metals and bamboo will join the percussion section.” The 2024 premiere of the work TBD.
