The recording of Poppaea (New Focus Recordings)—the opera by faculty artist Michael Hersch (BM ’95, MM ’97, Composition) and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann, co-starring faculty artist Ah Young Hong (BM ’98, MM ’01, Voice) that premiered in Vienna in 2021 and a nominee for the 2023 Austrian Music Theater Prize for Best Contemporary Music Theater—is earning praise since its February release: Hersch was featured on the Relevant Tones podcast talking about the opera and the recording has been reviewed by the Luxembourg classical music website Pizzicato, Fanfare, Jeremy Shatan’s An Earful substack, and more.
