Composer Andy Li (BM ’22, Music for New Media) and librettist Jill Ohayon will be presenting their short musical “Birthday Presence” as one of nine writing teams chosen for the highly selective Prospect Musicals 2025 Musical Theatre Lab. Each year, the Off-Broadway theatre company brings together writing teams to create short musicals in response to a curated assignment. This year’s lab has a central theme of time. Each writing team randomly selected a length of time to “jump cut” as an inspiration for their piece.
The piece was presented in a one-night-only, concert-style public performance on Thursday, February 20 at Symphony Space in the Peter J. Sharp Theater.
Li and Ohayon’s piece was directed by Prospect Associate Artistic Director Dev Bondarin with music direction by Sheela Ramesh. It featured Miyuki Miyagi as NOELLE and Sarah A. Fernandez (Wicked) as CASSANDRA.
