The October 19, 2023, opening of the Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C., was a celebratory day for Johns Hopkins University and Peabody’s presence was ubiquitous. Opening ceremonies included a performance by faculty artist Carl DuPont and members of the opera chorus. A variety of Peabody ensembles performed an American-themed program at an afternoon concert in the state-of-the-art theater. And the festivities culminated in a site-specific work realized by the Peabody Dance Company that started in the lower level and moved through the dispersed crowd, climbing the building’s dramatic staircases and balconies.
