The Peabody Institute’s proud history as the oldest conservatory in the country is a story told in part by its beautiful, historic Mount Vernon campus. Peabody today is also a vibrant and changing organization facing an ever-widening gap between growing programming and enrollment and the ability of the current facilities to support that vision.
Johns Hopkins University has recently acquired the Waterloo apartment complex, which will become student housing in fall 2026, enhancing the Peabody student experience and creating the opportunity to move forward with long-considered plans for expanded programmatic and academic space.
“We are thrilled to create a more centralized and contemporary student living experience with the Waterloo,” noted Dean Fred Bronstein. “And, as we advance this project, we look forward to working with our Peabody community, our Johns Hopkins family, and our Baltimore neighbors toward our shared goals of ensuring that Peabody continues to thrive and that the Mount Vernon neighborhood remains one of the most historic and vibrant areas in Baltimore.”
