Last year the Johns Hopkins University Office of the Provost commissioned a Taskforce on the Arts to bolster the arts across the university and inspire the exchange of ideas across disciplines and divisions. Led by Homewood Professor of the Humanities Daniel Weiss, president emeritus of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the efforts will assess—and eventually add to—the university’s visual arts offerings while also examining the university’s inter[1]disciplinary arts-related programming, projects, and research. The taskforce consists of 15 members selected from across the university and Medicine community, including students, faculty, staff, and trustees, and includes Peabody Professor of Musicology Anna Celenza, Associate Professor of Voice Carl DuPont, and Associate Dean for Innovation in the Arts and Health Sarah Hoover. An initial report and recommendations are forthcoming with the goal of beginning to implement a new Arts Vision as part of the University’s 150th anniversary in 2026
