Kirsten Lavin has remained busy since starting as Peabody’s new Associate Dean for External Relations in November. She’s met with Institute leadership and members of the Peabody Institute Advisory Board to identify priority projects and giving opportunities. She’s working with members of the External Relations team to establish new goals and processes, and she’s listening to faculty, students, alumni, and donors to better understand the impact of philanthropy at Peabody.
A veteran fundraiser and Johns Hopkins leader, Lavin comes to Peabody from the university’s central Development and Alumni Relations team, where, among other projects, she led the solicitation and recognition strategy for trustees and advisory board members building support for the new Hopkins Bloomberg Center that opened in October in Washington, D.C. “This project was truly a one-Hopkins moment,” she says, “and I enjoyed working with our development colleagues and academic leaders from across the institution to engage donors in the celebration of this historic occasion.”
Lavin’s 20-plus-year Johns Hopkins career started at Peabody in the communications team, where she launched the first issue of Peabody Magazine. “It is so nice to see the magazine continue in its latest iteration,” she says of the award-winning publication. After working on communications for the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, she helped to guide the brand and position platform for the $6 billion Rising to the Challenge capital campaign. Her deep and broad experience professionally and at Hopkins, specifically, makes her an ideal advocate for Peabody’s ongoing evolution into a leader of 21st-century performing arts education. With Peabody’s new and expanded programs, such as Performing Arts and Health, record-breaking enrollment, and a new stage in Washington, D.C., she and her team are focusing on deepening engagement with current donors and the Peabody alumni community while nurturing interest in Peabody with new audiences.
“Peabody was prominently featured at the opening events of the Hopkins Bloomberg Center and you can tell that it is really the jewel of Johns Hopkins,” she says. “I’m so lucky to be here to help make it shine a bit brighter.”
