Student receives scholarship for preserving the art form of Negro spiritual singing

Soprano Kisma Jordan, a GPD candidate studying with Stanley Cornett, is the 2011-2012 recipient of the A. Grace Lee Mims Vocal Scholarship, presented by the Cleveland Foundation. The award is given to a student with ties to the state of Ohio, who is enrolled full time at a recognized and accredited institution for graduate-level course work in vocal performance or music education, with an emphasis on voice, in order to perpetuate the singing of the Negro spiritual through performance and/or teaching.
