Caryn Block (DMA ’97, Composition), had her new dramatic song cycle Long, Too Long America for soprano, baritone and piano, performed in a vocal concert by singers of the Opera Project at St. Andrew’s Church in Lambertville, N.J., in January. The song cycle was written in commemoration of the victims of 9/11 and is a new version of the third movement of Celebration and Remembrance Double Concerto for English horn, bassoon, mezzo-soprano, baritone and orchestra. Block’s new duo, Dionysus for marimba and cello, received a favorable review in the March issue of Percussive Notes, the journal of the Percussive Arts Society in the mixed instrumentation category.
