Michael Delfín awards

DelfinMichael Delfín (BM ’14, Piano), who studied with Boris Slutsky, was awarded top prizes in a number of prominent competitions. In March, he won the Baltimore Music Club Competition, Senior Piano Division; first prize in the Fresno Musical Club’s Susan Torres Award Competition; and third prize in the International Crescendo Music Awards, College Piano Division, in Tulsa, Okla. Concurrently, he took first prize in the College Piano Division of the Social Music Works International Video Upload Competition. Delfín will perform a solo recital at California State University, Fresno, on June 7. On June 27, he will join fellow Peabody and Johns Hopkins double degree student Jade Huang in a performance of Brahms’s Sonata for Two Pianos at the Music Teachers’ Association of California State Convention in Los Angeles as alumni of the MTAC Young Artist Guild. In addition to studying piano at Peabody, Delfín earned a minor in composition under the guidance of Judah Adashi. He also pursued a Bachelor of Arts in History at the Johns Hopkins University. In the fall of 2014, be will begin graduate studies in piano at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Yoshikazu Nagai.
