Peabody computer music students, faculty, and alumni are in the midst of being featured at the 2015 International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) taking place at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas from September 25 to October 1. Among the performed pieces are Tres Gritos Para Mi Patria for flute and electronics by Joshua Armenta (MM ’14, Composition; MM ’15, Computer Music Research), Strike I for violin and electronics by master’s student Yi-an Hwang, and Dirge for voice, prepared piano, and electronics by Ivan Voinov (’15, Computer Music Composition; Recording Arts and Sciences) and Wuan-Chin Li (MM ’99, Electronic/Computer Music).
Members of the department presented a paper and poster entitled “Peabody Computer Music: 48 Years of Looking to the Future” at the ICMC poster session written by Mr. Armenta, Director of Computer Music Geoffrey Wright, faculty member McGregor Boyle, Sunhuimei Xia (MM ’14, Computer Music Composition), and master’s student Ryan Woodward.
The ICMC is the preeminent annual gathering for computer music practitioners from around the world and its unique interweaving of professional paper presentations and concerts of new computer music, refereed by ICMA-approved international panels, creates a vital synthesis of science, technology and the art of music.
