Dreams of the Fallen by Jake Runestad (MM ’11, Composition) will make its Carnegie Hall premiere as a part of Park Avenue Chamber Symphony’s concert titled Honoring our Veterans on Nov. 19th. The work for piano, chorus, and orchestra explores the impact war has on an individual and is inspired by poems of Brian Turner. Runestad’s composition I Will Lift Mine Eyes will be performed for Pope Francis at the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City by Schola Cantorum of the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis on Nov. 20. Runestad was featured on Omar Crook’s podcast Living With a Genius on Nov. 6. The Twin Cities Pioneer Press featured an article on Runestad titled Young Composer Seeks Harmony in Social Justice Themes, which covered his collaboration with Magnum Chorum and his interest in writing music surrounding contemporary issues. Runestad recently served as composer-in-residence with Phoenix Chamber Choir, the University of British Columbia, and the BCMEA in Vancouver. Runestad’s additional recent collegiate residencies include Cal State Long Beach, Riverside City College, and Luther College.
