James Burton (MM ’98, Conducting) has been named choral director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. Burton’s responsibilities will include auditioning and preparing the choral members for performances in Boston, at Tanglewood, and on tour. He will also serve as a cover for Andris Nelsons and other conductors who cannot appear as scheduled to lead the chorus and play a role in programming and collaborating with Boston Pops and conductor Keith Lockhart. Burton began his tenure with February performances of Bach’s Mass in B minor. In August, he was interviewed by the Berkshire Eagle.
