An article in The Baltimore Sun highlights Peabody alumni and faculty artists Douglas Buchanan (MM ’08, Composition, Music Theory Pedagogy; DMA ’13, Composition) and Benjamin Buchanan (MM ’14, Composition; MM ’15, Music Theory Pedagogy) and their work with Voices Rise. Voices Rise is a choir hosted by Paul’s Place, an outreach center in Pigtown. The brothers began the choir in February with the help of a $14,500 Dean’s Incentive Grant from Peabody. The choir is still small, but they plan to use the funds from the grant to provide gift cards to those who participate in the choir, as well as recruiting. The choir is modeled after the Dallas Street Choir and is made up of visitors and volunteers of Paul’s Place in southwest Baltimore.
