Amy Domingues (MM ’12, Viola da Gamba) is a founding member of the early music ensemble Sonnambula. Sonnambula’s debut recording, Leonora Duarte: The Complete Works, was released on June 7 on the Centaur Records label. Leonora Duarte (1610–1678), a Jewish Converso living in Antwerp, was the only known woman to write music for the viol in the seventeenth-century. Her surviving work, seven Sinfonias for consort, not only fill an extraordinary gap in history, but are a testament to a formidable talent for composition. While working on the project during their residency at the Cloisters, they collaborated with Teju Cole, who has provided commentary on the composer on the album. This project was detailed and praised in an article in The New Yorker in February.
