Symphony Number One has been named the 2019 Grand Prize winner of The American Prize in Orchestral Performance. The American Prize recognized the Baltimore group for its 2017-18 season which included 11 concerts, a fourth album, three major world premieres, a hip-hop collaboration, the music of Dan Deacon, 20 total new compositions, and a performance at TEDxMidAtlantic 2017. The group has also announced its fifth season, “BRIDGES,” which will feature a partnership with Morgan State University and music by Douglas Buchanan (MM ’08, Composition, Music Theory Pedagogy; DMA ’13, Composition) throughout 2019-20.
