Ellen Mack to Receive 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award During Peabody Conservatory’s Virtual Commencement Ceremony

Ellen MackEllen Mack has been chosen to receive the 2020 Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award at this year’s virtual Commencement ceremony on May 20.

Ellen has been a member of the Peabody piano faculty for more than 50 years, shaping and inspiring her students with both her exceptional musicianship and her vast knowledge. Her devotion to guiding students in her studio and in her accompanying and sonata classes has left an indelible imprint on so many throughout their professional careers.

A Fulbright scholar who has performed recitals in major capitals across Europe, Russia, and North America, Ellen teaches seminars and master classes in Asia and Canada and has produced a noteworthy collection of recordings. The pianist for the Jascha Heifetz/Gregor Piatigorsky/William Primrose Institute, Ellen studied at the University of Southern California with Gwendolyn Koldofsky and John Crown, at the University of California at Berkeley, and at the Vienna State Academy. In addition to teaching and recording, she is the co-founder of the First Opus Chamber Music Society.
