Holly Nelson, a second-year DMA student of Vadim Gluzman, was awarded the Presser Foundation’s 2021-22 Graduate Music Award. The Presser Award program is designed to encourage and support in a special way the advanced education and career of truly exceptional graduate music students who have the potential to make a distinguished contribution to the field of music. Nelson plans to use the cash stipend to travel to Argentina in 2023 to spend nine months intensively researching tango music performance practice and pedagogy, with the end goal of developing a tango workshop to be presented at U.S. universities. She also aims to establish a Baltimore-based tango ensemble. Nelson’s project has also been awarded a Fulbright Grant.
