Marvin Sewell Joins Peabody Jazz faculty

Headshot of Marvin SewellGuitarist Marvin Sewell joins the Jazz faculty of the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University beginning in the 2022-23 academic year.

Sewell is a New York-based blues and jazz guitarist, born and raised in Chicago where he attended the Chicago Musical College at Roosevelt University. He has played and recorded with leading jazz artists, notably Cassandra Wilson, Jack DeJohnette, Lizz Wright, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Christian Sands, Charles Lloyd, and many others. Since 2001 he has led the Marvin Sewell Group and he composes much of their music.

Sewell joins a jazz faculty, headed by trumpeter Sean Jones, Richard and Elizabeth Case Chair in Jazz Studies, that emphasizes experiential learning and pairs rigorous studio instruction with real-world performance opportunities.
