Current master’s student Bowen Zheng (BM ’23, Guitar) performed a 5-concert tour in July, working with the South Bay Guitar Society in the San Francisco Bay Area to bring classical guitar music to local communities. The venues included the San Jose Brookdale retirement community, Mountain View Public Library, Cupertino Library, and Saratoga Library, and the San Jose Museum of Quilt and Textiles. The free community event series featured an interactive hour-long program developed during his senior year at Peabody, with pieces ranging from the exquisite romance encapsulated in “The Moon Represents My Heart,” sung most famously by the Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng (鄧麗君), to the poignant depiction of Ophelia’s tragic demise in Shakespeare’s Hamlet as portrayed musically by Australian composer Phillip Houghton.
