Nasar Abadey Honored with Howard University Benny Golson Jazz Master Award

Headshot of Nasar AbadeyPeabody faculty artist Nasar Abadey is one of four esteemed jazz artists being honored with the Howard University Benny Golson Jazz Master Award this week in Washington, D.C. The award was created in 1996 to honor the legacy of Golson, a Howard alumnus and 1995 NEA Jazz Master, and jazz greats from Geri Allen to Bobby Watson have received it over the years. Abadey, a veteran drummer and educator, is being recognized alongside composer/trombonist Vincent Gardner, drummer and piano manufacturer Warren Shadd, and the late pianist John Malachi.

The awards ceremony takes place Thursday, November 16, at the Chadwick A Boseman College of Fine Arts, with a performance by the Howard University Jazz Ensemble, at 12:40 pm. The concert will be livestreamed on the Howard University Department of Music Facebook page.
