Dmitry Volkov, a cello student of Amit Peled, was awarded first prize in the 2012 Yale Gordon Competition for orchestral bowed strings. Volkov will play the Shostakovich Cello Concerto in E-flat major, Op. 107 with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra next season, and a recital on the Homewood campus.
Violinists Nikita Borisevich, a student of Victor Danchenko, and Colin Sorgi, a student of Herbert Greenberg, shared second prize.
Judges for the competition were Natalia Khoma (cello, College of Charleston), Boris Galitsky (violin, Paris Conservatory), and Kurt Muroki (bass, SUNY Stony Brook).
