Faye Chiao composing for 25th anniversary of Hubble Space Telescope

Faye ChiaoFaye Chiao, a DMA student in composition, was awarded the Presser Music Award last year to write and produce a piece to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope in 2015. To See the Stars will premiere at the Davis Planetarium in partnership with the Maryland Science Center on March 29, 2015. The piece will be premiered by the Lunar Ensemble, a new music vocal and instrumental ensemble.  It is to be a dramatic-visual-musical journey that follows the development of the telescope, telling the story of astronomers, scientists and explorers who have dreamt their entire lives of trying to reach the heavens. Through song, poetry, theater and immersive video, To See the Stars will tell the human story behind the science of exploration—a story of dedication, of hope, of miscalculation and catastrophe, of discovery and triumph.
