Colin Sorgi to perform at Lucerne Festival

SorgiColin Sorgi (BM ’09, GPD ’13, Violin) has been invited as guest concertmaster of the 2015 Lucerne Festival Academy. Mr. Sorgi will give the European premiere of composer-in-residence Tod Machover’s electric violin concerto Forever and Ever on August 29, and perform Alban Berg’s Lyric Suite in a special daylong celebration of Pierre Boulez’s 90th birthday on August 23. The three-week festival, founded by Pierre Boulez as part of one of Europe’s most prestigious music festivals, features young musicians from around the globe in symphonic and chamber music performances. Mr. Sorgi, a 2010 participant in the festival, will return this summer as concertmaster of the orchestra in a program, led by conductor Matthias Pintscher. Mr. Sorgi is currently the concertmaster of the National Philharmonic in Washington, D.C., and the artistic director of Baltimore’s SONAR new music ensemble. Eun Jin Raoul Cho (BM ’11, MM ’12, Flute) was also a student at the academy this summer.
