Fred Bronstein, Dean of the Peabody Institute, said: “Marni Nixon, who was the recipient of the 2011 George Peabody Medal, was a national treasure, although most people would not have known it. As the actual, anonymous singing voice behind the leading ladies in some of Hollywood’s most famous musicals on film – including Natalie Wood in West Side Story and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady to name just two – she was omnipresent, largely uncredited, and always spectacular. We are proud of her association with Peabody and saddened to hear of her passing.”
