Mezzo-soprano Megan Ihnen (MM ’09, Voice), clarinetist Gregory Oakes, percussionist Adam Groh, and composer and electronic musician Erik Spangler performed a site-specific program of contemporary classical and electronic music in the Devonian fossil gorge at Coralville Lake on Friday, June 16, 2017. The outdoor musical experience culminated with the premiere of a new piece by Spangler, Devonian Geometry, composed for the occasion and incorporating texts written by local students at Iowa Montessori School along with video projections by Jaeho Lee.
This upcoming Friday, June 23, 2017, Ihnen will be performing Gÿorgy Kurtág’s Kafka Fragments with Martha Morrison Muehleisen (MM ’07, Violin). Through video (animations by Karen Yasinsky) and sound, the audience will take a deeply spiritual journey through the life and writings of Franz Kafka and interpret them as a “historical fiction” of Junko Tabei – the first woman to climb Mt. Everest.
