Jake Runestad (MM ’11, Composition; MM ’12, Music Theory Pedagogy) has had a number of exciting projects in recent months. “Rivers of Air” was commissioned by a consortium of 17 university wind ensembles in North America and was premiered in November by the Capital University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Jeff Gershman. The Santa Fe Desert Chorale performed “Come to the Woods” this summer. Runestad conducted Kantorei, an ensemble in Colorado, in a concert of his pieces in the fall. Grammy-nominated True Concord Voices & Orchestra performed his extended work for piano, chorus, and orchestra “Dreams of the Fallen” as well, in three moving performances. Finally, he completed two residences with West Virginia University and Oklahoma State University.
