Jennifer Nicole Campbell Creates Workshop

jennifernicolecampbellphoto1Jennifer Nicole Campbell (BM ’14, MM ’15, Piano) led four high school student composers who premiered their musical compositions on August 21 at the culmination of the Brandywine River Museum of Art Young Composers Workshop. Campbell saw a lack of performance opportunities for young composers to nourish and explore their potential creativity in the area, and began the workshop this summer in collaboration with the Brandywine River Museum of Art, the home and summit of many of the notable Wyeth family paintings. Each student chose a specific visual work at the museum to utilize for their inspiration including works of N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, Jamie Wyeth and Douglas Allen (who was present at the premiere concert). The instrumentation ranged from solo piano to string quartet, and their works were performed at the museum for a large audience. Throughout the summer, each student worked collaboratively with Campbell during her workshop to fuse together their once-abstract ideas into the reality of a new piece of music in a unique intermingling between visual art and live music. The works were performed by members of the local Delaware County Symphony, with whom Campbell serves as their newly-appointed Chamber Music Director.
