Chasqui Quartet-comprised of Sarah Cranor, violin; Han Dewan (’19, Viola), Alejandro Gómez Guillén, violin; and Amy Huzjak, cello-announce their 2023 tour, including three on-site performances at Colorado Department of Corrections facilities and public performances in Gunnison and on Zoom. Their Gunnison County Public Library concert on Friday, July 21 at 6:00 pm features some of their favorite composers, particularly Gabriela Lena Frank and her work, Leyendas: an Andean Walkabout. The name Chasqui Quartet was inspired by the 4th movement, which describes the running messengers of the Andes mountains, who would travel long distances to relay important messages and stories between communities. As musicians who commute a long way to bring music to various communities around the US, and as runners, the image of the chasqui stuck.
