Peabody Preparatory faculty member Elijah Wirth (BM ’99, Tuba; MM ’02, Music Education), Preparatory Wind Orchestra conductor and chair of music theory, has been named a quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Award presented by the Recording Academy and the Grammy foundation. The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators (K through college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. Each year, one recipient will be selected from 10 finalists, and will be recognized for his/her remarkable impact on students’ lives. The winner will be flown to host city of the Grammy Awards to accept the award, attend the Grammy Awards ceremony, and receive a $10,000 honorarium. The nine other finalists will each receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the schools of all 10 finalists will receive matching grants. The semifinalists will be announced in September. Read more here.
