Peabody Computer Music Consort Presents “…fused into music…”

hub0429The Peabody Computer Music Consort will present “..fused into music…” on Tuesday, May 3 at 7:30 pm in Peabody’s  Leith Symington Griswold Hall, featuring new and old works composed and performed by current and former Peabody faculty and students. Stanford University Center for Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) faculty artist Rob Hamilton (MM ’04, Computer Music) will perform Carillon for Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, Leap Motion controller, and 8-channel sound, composed by Chris Platz and himself. Other performances include viola faculty artist Maria Lambros performing Aldebaran for viola and recorded sounds by Guggenheim fellow and founder of the Peabody Electronic Music Studios, Jean Eichelberger Ivey; saxophone faculty artist Gary Louie performing Midway Inlet for saxophone and interactive electronics by computer music faculty and Consort technical director McGregor Boyle (MM ’85, Guitar; DMA ’90, Composition); Peabody alumna and Stanford CCRMA Artistic Coordinator Chryssie Nanou (GPD ’04, Piano), performing Daniel Blinkhorn’s FrostbYte with ecological sonics and video; Peabody alumnus Peter Kibbe (BM ’12, Cello) performing Alexandra Gardner’s Bloom for cello and boombox; and jazz bass faculty artist Michael Formanek and computer music composition master’s student Edwin Huet (BM ’15, Computer Music Composition) performing Submersive(s), for 5-string acoustic bass and live 8.1 electronics. The concert also features a closing performance of Milton Babbitt’s Philomel for voice and prerecorded quadrophonic sound by faculty voice artist, soprano Ah Young Hong. The concert is presented by artistic director and director of Peabody Computer Music Geoffrey Wright (MM ’81, DMA ’92, Composition), technical director and computer music faculty McGregor Boyle, and Production Coordinator Joshua Armenta (MM ’14, Composition; MM ’15, Computer Music). This event is free with reservations through the Peabody Box Office.
