The Baltimore Choral Arts Society‘s 2016 Student Composer Project was held at Grace United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 10. This year’s student composers were DMA guitar candidate Nathan Cornelius, master’s composition student Peter Dayton, and undergraduate voice and composition student and preparatory alumnus Cameron Falby. All three students wrote original choral compositions which were performed by the Baltimore Choral Arts Chamber Chorus, Tom Hall, and Leo Wanenchak in a public master class. Each student received a professional recording of their performance. Student composer project composer mentors were John Belkot (MM ’14, Composition), Joshua Bornfield (MM ’13, Composition), musicology faculty member Douglas Buchanan (MM ’08, Composition, Music Theory Pedagogy; DMA ’13, Composition), and DMA candidate Michael Rickelton (MM ’10, Composition).
